If you've got some cash and are looking to buy a home, you might want to hit the auction circuit.

Rob Friedman, chairman of Real Estate Disposition Corp. in California, is forecasting his firm will have over 500 auctions in 2009 - a record. But, getting a deal at an auction is not just about having cash when others don't. There are some tricks that will help you get the best price for the property.

Some are obvious, like doing your homework. Others, not so much... For example, the first properties at auction often sell for less than later, comparable properties. The article also explains "trustee auctions," known as the "wild west" of real estate, where buyers gather on the courthouse steps with cash in hand.
