Madoff could spend 23 hours a day alone in dark room... for 150 years

Not only was he sentenced to 150 years, more than six times the length of the sentences given to the chief executives of Enron and Worldcom, but Bernie Madoff will be serving those years in a far less cushy environment.

Madoff will likely be hauled off to a medium- or high- security prison, as opposed to the low-security facilities often reserved for white-collar crime. He'll be housed alongside mostly violent criminals. Given his high profile stature, this likely means he'll be housed in solitary confinement, a treat often reserved for only the worst offenders, where he'll spend 23 hours a day in his cell and be given just a single hour outdoors, alone in a confined area.
