For years, government health scolds have peddled the idea that egg yolks are cholesterol-laden and bad for you. Even before I launched Retirement Millionaire, I told readers of my S&A Health Report not to believe this nonsense. Egg yolks are perfectly healthy for you. A whole egg contains about a full day’s worth of cholesterol and six grams of protein.
The truth is your body manufactures cholesterol all day long. It does this because every cell in your body needs cholesterol. Without it, you would die within days.
In fact, we use cholesterol to produce hormones, vitamin D, and digestive fluids. Moreover, chemicals in the egg yolk help your body transport cholesterol properly.
Just remember not to cook them too much… and never scramble them. Cooking the eggs until they are solid oxidizes the cholesterol and degrades the other antioxidants and vitamins found in the yolk. I prefer to eat my eggs over easy to keep all the health benefits of the yolk.
