By Daily Crux Editor Brandon Herrin:

If you're tired of paying rent... Stop paying it. There are homeowners all over the world that will put a roof over your head for free... Some will even pay you.

Homeowners will give you a place to live in return for chores as simple as walking the dogs. Some owners will allow you to live for free just to scare off vandals and burglars. But if you have an RV, the options are endless...

"Workampers" travel across the country and stop their RVs wherever they can find work... on campgrounds, amusement parks, lighthouses, or Christmas tree lots.

If the work sucks - fine. As workamper Bob Duncan puts it, "Sometimes you decide you don't want to be there anymore. We're on wheels, and they roll." Worried about gas? No problem says Dan Miller. "I get between 8 and 10 (miles per gallon) when we're towing. But we only do it twice a year."

This article provides tips for finding these free-living situations and how to smoothly make the transition.
