One of the biggest blows to individual freedom in recent memory came from the Supreme Court's 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of New London. It gave local governments the right to seize private property in the name of "economic development."

The ruling allowed the city of New London, Connecticut to give Susette Kelo and her neighbors' land to private developers for a giant project including a hotel and offices to benefit Pfizer's nearby corporate headquarters.

Now, four years later, in what can only be considered a cruel joke on Ms. Kelo and a monument to government stupidity, the "wrecked and condemned neighborhood" is vacant. Pfizer has announced it will close its New London headquarters.
