From Doug Casey in The Casey Report:
Although the world's financial problems are foremost in peoples minds, I'm afraid even more serious troubles are waiting in the wings. And while there's quite a bit you can do to defend yourself against financial turmoil, there's somewhat less you can do about the more serious problems. Let me briefly identify a few.
One thing to be concerned about is a general attitude of philosophical capitulation at large in the world. The BBC recently polled 29,000 people across 27 countries. The bottom line is that they want more regulation and more wealth redistribution and are unhappy with what they think is the free-market system. You may like the idea of personal freedom and financial opportunity, but apparently not many others do. And that has huge implications. It seemed like things were going the right way during the 80s and 90s but that was then and this is now.
One consequence is that there will be more political repression, a trend toward a world in which everything that isn't required is prohibited. And plenty of extra government agents and police to enforce the rules.
