Atlas Shrugged begins... New York turns on the rich

Rather than drastically cut government spending, some New York bureaucrats are going after the state's top wage earners to plug budget holes.

Bloomberg reports on a proposed new tax bill: "The bill would increase the income tax rate for those earning more than $250,000 a year by 1.4 percentage points to 8.25 percent; for those earning $500,000 to 8.97 percent, and for those who earn $1 million to 10.3 percent."

Ayn Rand's free market manifesto Atlas Shrugged is the tale of the moochers (bureaucrats and welfare cases) attacking the productive, earning members of society in a misplaced attempt to stave off financial catastrophe. A passage of this bill sets New York down that path.
